1. Swedish massage:
This is the most common type of massage. When think of getting a massage this is most likely the kind that will come to mind. The massage therapists use smooth strokes and circular movements on the muscles in order to release tension.
2. Hot Stone Massage:
The therapists heats a number of stones and places them on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tense muscles. They may also apply gentle pressure with the stones. This is a good alternative to the Swedish massage if you prefer a lighter massage with less pressure.
3. Aromatherapy Massage:
This is similar to the Swedish massage except the therapist uses scented oils during the massage. This is a great choice if you are looking for increased levels of relaxation.
4. Deep Tissue Massage:
The therapist focuses on the deeper layers of your muscles with the use of slower strokes. This is used when you have especially tight our tense muscles. Often times this is used to help recover from an injury or to help reduce postural problems. It is not uncommon for you to feel sore a couple days after a deep tissue massage.
This is commonly known as a foot massage. The practice of reflexology focuses on applying pressure to specific points on the foot that correspond with organ systems in the body.
